HOW TO KEEP FROM RUNNING AWAY
Hebrews 12:1-3
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of
witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin
that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the
race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the
author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before
him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the
right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such
opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grown weary and
lose heart.
Have you ever thought, daydreamed, allowed the possibility to
roll over in your mind, of running away from it all? Maybe it
was birthed with a scene from a movie, a paragraph from a book,
a story about a friend, that prompted those feelings of escape
to inch there way into the fabric of your mind and then because
of frustration, responsibility, conflict or that overall feeling
that is so nebulous, but so real, "lack of fulfillment"; that
you begin to weave and paint a picture of your escape, you were
ready just to run away. If we are all honest, and hopefully we
can be here today, we must realize that it is normal to think
such thoughts. To say, "I have never thought of chunking it
all, go live on an island all by myself (or at least with people
just to serve me) would not be honest. We all think like
that--how do you keep from running away? The sad story is
simple, many divorces, affairs, abandonment of families, job
relocations, burn-outs, costly vacations that you can't afford,
spending sprees, and credit limits that have been taken ...
