1 Corinthians 1:10-11
We started a few weeks ago on the Essentials series...It's not so much the essential doctrines of the church i.e. the Deity of Christ, Salvation by Grace, the Resurrection, the Gospel or monotheism.
But the broader based essentials or fundamentals that we deal with in our relationship to God and our relationships within the church body...
Kind of funny with essentials, they are dictated by what you are going to be doing...i.e. carpenter, teacher....or camping...When I go hunting/camping its generally simple fare. Hot Dogs, burgers, maybe come chili and a can opener....When I go hunting with my friend however, he shows up with this ginormous cooler filled with lasagna, chicken fettuccine etc. and even steak! (I like hunting with this guy!) Some of you think SPAM is an essential food group!
We have covered the topic of forgiveness....the Father's heart to forgive, and our response to each other to forgive also....
I want to jump off that this morning and teach on conflict...the essentials of conflict...
Pretty much goes hand in hand with forgiveness....
Pastorally speaking I'm called to point people towards God, yet I've spent far more virtue, time, teaching to get people relationally healthy towards each other...marriages, parental issues, neighbors...and brothers and sisters in the church family...
I was feeling a bit down about that until I was reminded by the Word how much the early apostles, and even Jesus had to teach about healthy relationships and conflict management...
So why am I teaching this as an essential?
Because the early Apostles had to spend a lot of time on it as well!
The apostle Paul writes his first letter to the church in Corinth...starts out well for a few verses and then addresses a serious issue in verse 10
