Genesis 37:1-4
Genesis 37:1-4 (NASB95) 1 Now Jacob lived in the land where his father had sojourned, in the land of Canaan. 2 These are the records of the generations of Jacob. Joseph, when seventeen years of age, was pasturing the flock with his brothers while he was still a youth, along with the sons of Bilhah and the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives. And Joseph brought back a bad report about them to their father. 3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his sons, because he was the son of his old age; and he made him a varicolored tunic.4 His brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers; and so they hated him and could not speak to him on friendly terms.
Open: Read the story of Joseph once again a few weeks ago, inspired me to look at a few things and realized I'd never done any kind of series on the life of Joseph
Pretty important...The last 14 chapters of the first book of the bible...have to do with Joseph!
Joseph would eventually rise to be 2nd in command with possibly the most powerful nation on the earth at the time...(vice-president of a 1st world nation today)
The story also demonstrates the power of a mother's prayer as Joseph was the result of Rachel's prayer when she was barren...
Sometimes the only response to ''barrenness'' in any area of our life is prayer that opens up ''new life'' that will be redemptive as we see in Josephs' story.
Story also demonstrates God's determination to fulfill covenant blessing despite character flaws of His chosen family
Abraham twice put his wife in danger by being dishonest
Isaac did the same with his wife
Jacob was dishonest, greedy...con man...
Yet God shows His mercy throughout, that despite the flaws, the bumps, the sin etc...That He can bring good out of a mess...
Seems to show that God disqualifies people much slower than we do?
Abraham, Isaac, Jacob would be the best reality TV show o ...
