Joshua 6:2-5
Charles Finney noted this about obedience and sacrifice, ''Revival is nothing more or less than a new obedience to God!''
We started studying the book of Joshua in January with a series about crossing over into new territory, new things etc. Joshua is a real person, these are real events and yet they also are types and shadows of the reality of God and moving into new things that God has before us! The points I want to illustrate this morning out of Joshua 6 have to do with obedience...some of this will be a bit of a recap, but I felt a real direction to open it up a bit more. It's not an easy subject as it is in our old nature and the fallen world to be disobedient...Much easier...and there is something alluring about being disobedient....rebels...
Joshua 6:2-5 (NASB95) 2 The Lord said to Joshua, ''See, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and the valiant warriors.?3 ''You shall march around the city, all the men of war circling the city once. You shall do so for six days.?4 ''Also seven priests shall carry seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark; then on the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets.?5 ''It shall be that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city will fall down flat, and the people will go up every man straight ahead.''?
Joshua 6:19 (NASB95)?19 ''But all the silver and gold and articles of bronze and iron are holy to the Lord; they shall go into the treasury of the Lord.''
First of all, I want to point out that this is not a typical military campaign!
These are fighting men, men of war that are trained, hardened and wilderness strong...
It is always a test of trust, a test of obedience when God's ways are unusual...
2 Corinthians 10:3-6 (NKJV)?3 For though ...
