Open: I want to take a Sunday or two and unpack the Biblical, and especially the New Testament concept of Holiness.

1 Peter 1:16 (NKJV) 16because it is written, ''Be holy, for I am holy.''

To many people, holiness is a term or concept that is legalistic...Because of this the concept of holiness is rejected...

Many people have been hurt, burdened, turned off by legalism....So, the concept of holiness is rejected...

History shows a Holiness movement with both healthy and unhealthy elements that touched and changed the lives of people...

Calling people up to walk in a higher standard...which is not bad....

Ephesians 4:1 (NASB95) 1Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called,

But doing so with a rigid, judgmental, imbalanced and legalistic way that focused more on outward appearances than the heart...focusing on dress codes...(not suit codes mind you)...smoking, drinking, chewing...what you can eat, cannot eat...not attending movies or wearing makeup...
One blog post I read stated that one church that didn't allow makeup would allow enough powder on the face to ''take the shine off''....

Take out the papers and the trash
Or you don't get no spendin' cash
If you don't scrub that kitchen floor
You ain't gonna rock and roll no more

Just finish cleanin' up your room

I've walked and counseled with many people who have been oppressed for years under the weight of such legalism...

How many know a car can look GREAT on the outside and have all kinds of trouble under the hood!

Early on I ran into legalism with my music...

Trying to take my passions and talents into the church I ran into people that ...
