2 Corinthians 3:17-18
1 Peter 1:15-16 (NKJV) 15but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16because it is written, ''Be holy, for I am holy.''
We are called to be holy and that may be something you are not comfortable with...
The term may bring up images of super judgmental people...Or you remember how you used to be and all the past sins...and feel disqualified or condemned...
We hear holy and we hear the word restrictions...images of legalism and legalistic people jump out at you like a nightmare...the Church Lady...
The truth is that we were created by a Holy God
Psalm 99:9 (NKJV)
9Exalt the Lord our God, And worship at His holy hill; For the Lord our God is holy.
And this God who loves you and I is committed to the transformation of who we really are in him...to be like him...
We are called to pursue holiness so that we can see God
It's not a ''holier than thou'' issue
It's a ''become more like Jesus'' issue...
John 14:9 (NKJV)
9Jesus said to him, ''Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, 'Show us the Father'?
Mirrors
I want to talk this morning about mirrors.
I was thinking about mirrors in a house...Mirrors in our house as an example...
I counted 7 in our home, two in our vehicles and two in our camper...
They are almost a necessity in our culture...from dressing rooms...to trying on sunglasses or hats...we will look for mirrors...
My wife...putting on lipstick...is looking for a mirror...
Come on let's be honest...you are in a mall and walk past a mirror and you will usually look....tuck in your shirt or realize you have ketchup from lunch on your shirt...maybe straighten up...tuck that stomach in...check out your biceps....come on! Mirrors are cool...and revealing...and intimidating...and truthful...
