INTRODUCTION

I've never been much of a tennis fan... I've never played tennis....

But last week, I read Andre Agassi's memoir, Open.

It's considered one of the best autobiographies of the last decade. So, I thought I would give it a look.

Within 5 pages, I was hooked. I couldn't put it down.

Once-in-a-lifetime athlete.... But struggled with a number of demons.

Early in his career, as a teenager, it looked like he would be one of the best ever... But a lack of focus... Immaturity... A rebellious attitude... He almost through his career away...

But through the love, compassion, care, and support of a few friends... Agassi found himself again... And did become one of the best ever.

One of things that makes this memoir so powerful is... He takes virtually no credit for his success... In every chapter, he writes with gratitude the influence his friends had on him.

His pastor, his wife, his trainer, his coach, his brother, his best friend.

I typically skip or skim these pages.

But in Open... The acknowledgements page.... Is one of the most powerful chapters...

For 400 pages, he tells the reader how much these various people mean to him...

But in the acknowledgements page, he addresses them directly.

For the reader, it's like reading someone's mail... It's so powerful to see the joy of friendship... Love... Expressed.

Today, we come to the final sermon in our study of the letter to the Philippians...

In these final verses, it sounds like the Apostle Paul's acknowledgements page.

One final opportunity to express his gratitude and love for the Philippian Christians.

Remember what this church means to Paul.

Several years befo ...
