INTRODUCTION
If statistics hold true, then 1/3 of you in this room take daily medication for anxiety.
I personally, am in that group.
We live at a time and place in history, where we are more anxious and stressed than ever before.
The demands on us at work. Perhaps dysfunction in our homes.
Financial pressures: Rent prices are through the roof. In the last decade, salaries have not risen with the cost of living.
We are anxious people.
I've told you this before... But the two most downloaded sermons from our website are the two simply titled ''Anxiety'' and ''Depression.''
That tells me... People are googling churches... Looking for answers to these issues... Wanting to know, ''Does God have anything to say about the anxiousness that I feel?''
The great thing about the Bible... Is how incredibly relevant it is for our lives.
Ecclesiastes 1:9 - ''There is nothing new under the sun.''
Which means, from the beginning of time.... Others have struggled with anxiety. You are not alone.
We've been studying the book of Philippians for a couple of months now. And today, as we are getting near the end of this letter... Paul addresses the issue of anxiety.
Keep in mind... Paul had reason to be anxious. He is in prison. He is awaiting trial... Facing execution... Away from the people he loves.
[4] Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. [5] Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; [6] do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. [7] And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
