INTRODUCTION
On Monday... I got a little spontaneous, and decided to sign up for a 5k in prospect park that night...
The truth is though, I'm not in the best of my life right now. In fact, I'm not really in shape at all.
I haven't trained. Haven't prepared. Haven't practiced. Haven't run in months.
But I thought... A 5k... No problem... The adrenaline/excitement will get me through.
But Monday... As you know... It was 90 degrees... 90% humidity...
Also... For those of you who've run at Prospect Park... You know that it defies the laws of science...
It is a complete loop...But someone it seems to be uphill the entire way.
This was all a recipe for disaster... About a half mile into the 3-mile race... I realized that I was going to have a tough night.
It was brutal... I thought I was going to die.
I learned a valuable lesson... When it comes to running and racing... You have to prepare... You have to practice... You can't jump into a race and expect to succeed if you haven't done the training.
You also have to prepare for unexpected challenges like weather and hills.
When it comes to describing a life of faith... The Apostle Paul, often uses the running/racing metaphors...
1 Tim 4 - Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.
One of the reasons we often get discouraged in our lives... Is because I think we haven't trained ourselves the difficult races we sometimes have to run.
There are some seasons of life... That feel like its ninety degrees... Uphill... And it feels like we'll never make it to the finish line.
And sometimes, the reason these seasons are so challenging is that we never prepared/trained ourselves.
