Philippians 3:17-21
INTRODUCTION
We're studying through the letter to the Philippians, and at this section of the letter... Paul is talking about spiritual growth. How to mature in your faith.
Last week, we talked about Spiritual growth. Spiritual Maturity.
Today, we will continue with that same theme... And I hope today is very practical for you... Because I know so many of you want to grow in your faith... You want to be spiritually mature...
I think the Apostle Paul has some practical words for us this morning.
Philippians 3:17-21
[17] Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us. [18] For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. [19] Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things.
[20] But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, [21] who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.
FIND FAITHFUL EXAMPLES OF CHRISTANS TO IMITATE
All throughout this letter, Paul has provided for his readers, examples of how to live a joyful life. Examples of other Christians who model the humility of Jesus for others to see.
Timothy, Epaphroditus.... Paul says... Follow their example.
Paul understands the reality that all of us, are the sum of our influences.... No one is self-made.... We are influenced by someone.
So Paul says... If we want to grow spiritually in healthy and mature disciples of Jesus... We must be intentional about who we allow to influence us.
We need to find examples of other people that will influence us to become more like Jesus.
