LEARNING TO TRUST AGAIN
John 20:19-21
On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples
were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus
came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" After
he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples
were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. Again Jesus said, "Peace
be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you."
WAIT A MINUTE! Don't swallow this passage without looking
between the verses. Do you realize here in this passage we see
the first public appearance of Jesus to the disciples after His
arrest, crucifixion, burial and resurrection. Don't you remember
that just three days before this experience the disciples
betrayed Him, denied Him, left Him, walked out on Him and here
in this passage the first experience with them again He doesn't
even mention it. In fact, Jesus never mentions it again. He
picks up and trusts them again.
How did He do that? I don't know about you, but that overwhelms
me, that our Lord could trust them again. After they left Him,
betrayed Him, were untrue to their words and to their physical
commitment that they had made verbally and physically, much less
financially, to Him, they walked out on Him. Here in this
passage we find Him trusting them again. How did He do that?
How did He do that?
I want to begin a teaching this morning, that I believe can
change your life and help your home both with husbands and
wives, children and their parents, as well as student to
student. For if there is anything that destroys relationships,
it is the lack of trust.
