A Miracle of Obedience (2 of 3)
Series: Miracles

Luke 5:1-11
Obedience can be a disconcerting word. That's because we don't always like to obey. We certainly didn't like it when we were kids. Back then we didn't have a choice. There was someone over us, namely a parent, who demanded our obedience and we knew our failure to obey would bring negative consequences. Now, as adults, the question of obedience is not always so simple. While intuitively we know we should be more obedient in certain areas of our lives we also know no one, other than God, is standing over us judging our level of obedience or disobedience.
Are there still negative consequences to our disobedience? I believe there are times when God really longs to bless us but can't because of our intentional acts of disobedience. In today's passage we find a group of men who basically knew everything there was to know about fishing on the Sea of Galilee but after a long night had caught nothing. It was then that the Master told them to go out one more time and let down their nets. In obedience to His word they experienced a miracle of provision.
Are you looking for God to do something you can't do for yourself? Check your level of obedience and see if there's anything standing in the way of God's blessings.

3 Then He got into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat.
4 When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, ''Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.''
5 But Simon answered and said to Him, ''Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.''
