Our scripture reading for today comes from Matthew 6:9-13

9 “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. 10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread, 12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Retirement is very revealing as to what your idols are. I was talking to a guy the other day that had retired since I had last seen him and I said how are you enjoying retirement? And he said,
I love it, I do whatever I want, whenever I want. And he wasn’t really doing much he had a
few horses and a dog and it seemed like he was just kind of taking care of them. But the further we talked he kind of seemed very unhappy with his dog and horses, and maybe with his life
in general.

On the other hand there are some people that are terrified of retirement. I was talking to a pastor about a year ago now, and he was telling me that he struggles with retirement because you have to give up your platform. You work your whole life to build up this big platform where all these people come out to hear what you have to say it’s pretty enticing, it makes you feel special and important, and then you walk away from it and just give it away, that’s pretty terrifying. So see retirement an interesting time of life, it’s one of those times that reveals you. Marriage is like that. I had no idea how selfish I was before I got married, I had no idea how inconsiderate I was. Having a Child is like that.

But there may be nothing more revealing in this life and that is the time in life, when you are faced with the thought of death. When you are faced with the idea that one day you will be
