Lay It All Down (1 of 4)
Series: The Way of the Cross
Lenny Ports
Psalm 24:3
ON OUR KNEES CHALLENGE
We want to start this sermon series called the WAY OF THE CROSS with a challenge for you. As many of you I have been in a modified fast of various degrees since November of last year. I felt the need to fast and pray because I needed to pray most importantly, but I also needed to be focused. Fasting helps me to focus on the Lord. He meets my needs not my food. I have a responsibility as the shepherd of this flock to hear from Jesus the Great Shepherd to lead this flock effectively. I believe that God called me into the time of consecration for several reasons:
- He wanted to cleanse me - dirt from this world can accumulate on us and without a good cleansing it can start to stick to us, and stay with us, eventually affecting our hearts. How many of you know, even if you do nothing, you really need a bath or a shower every day. Now I am not going to ask any of you if you showered today or not (in fear that people will start to move to another seat and the service would get interrupted)! It is important that we shower/bathe every day because stuff just in the air can accumulate on you, or what about those dust mites? This is about keeping our hearts cleansed and pure. Things
Psalm 24:3 Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? 4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully. 5 He shall receive blessing from the Lord, And righteousness from the God of his salvation. 6 This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Your face. Selah
- He wanted me to unload some things that I have been carrying - casting all your cares upon Him. You want to lower your blood pressure and find the peace of God? Learn how to give it all to Jesus. (old tune - give it all, give it all, give it all to Jesus, and He will turn your sorrow into joy.)
- He wanted me ...
