I love how this prayer is PACKED WITH EXPECTATION!

Hope is the expectation of good. Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, so our faith is the assurance of the good that God has intended for our lives, so we can EXPECT it! We are called to live a life of faith. The just shall live by faith. We walk by faith and not by sight, so we are called to not only to pray prayers of faith believing that the answers are on their way, but we are called to live a LIFE OF FAITH which is a LIFE OF EXPECTATION OF GOOD. That is why Paul could pray this prayer for the church in Rome - that God would fill them with all joy and peace in believing because they would have the assurance that God was about to deliver.

Joy is the deep-down-on-the-inside river that runs through the soul of someone who is living a life of expectation. Peace is the calm assurance that regardless of what we see, even in the midst of chaos all around us, God is at work performing something GOOD on our behalf. There is such a strong expectation that there is peace that passes understanding and the joy of the Lord is my strength.

I love that Paul's prayer is that the God of hope would fill us with joy and peace in believing, that WE MIGHT ABOUND IN HOPE. God knows that there are forces in the world that want to strip you of your hopeful expectation in God. As a matter of fact, the enemy seeks to remove the hopeful expectation in order that people would feel hopeless. When people feel like they have no more purpose, and no more reason to stick around, when they feel unloved, rejected and useless, in their minds they have no more future to ...
