It is Valentine's week and most pastors are preaching on Love today. They will be expounding upon how God made marriage and putting Him right in the center makes for a good Christian marriage. Everyone has hopeful expectations about their marriage or maybe just about their life. In their minds they map out a perfect plan of how things will all just fall into place in their lives. ''We're going to do this, we're going to have that, and then after X number of years, we are going to have kids. All will be blissful and perfect.''

I am not here to say that your marriage can't be blissful, because it can be. I am not here to say things never work out according to plan, because sometimes they do. But one thing is true: things don't always turn out the way we expect. Unfortunately, disappointments, or unmet expectations split people up, cause bitterness and resentment, put people in insane asylums, and even cause people to want to give up on life. But WE KNOW THAT THIS IS NOT GOD'S PLAN FOR THEM.

Before Christ, we wanted relationship for selfish reasons. What would this person do for me and how could I benefit from them? We looked to GET from relationships. But After Christ, we must look to what we can GIVE to relationships. Relationships are always a RISK. There are no doubt going to be offenses, hurts, disappointments, which are expectations...unmet.

Unmet expectations are not meant for people to give up on life, but for them to find the One who never gives up on them! That's why we all love the Scripture where God says to us, ''never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.'' Why? Because we have all been left, stood up, disappointed, hurt, wounded, abandoned, forsaken, devastated by life and by people. All of life's ills are caused by the sin that in the world.
