Day 358 December 24 - 1st John 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5

The church at Ephesus had begun to lose that first love that they were known for in the days of the apostle Paul. In turn, John the pastor at Ephesus was inspired to send the church a letter, due to his imprisonment on the Isle of Patmos. There is much debate as to the particulars of the dates of these writings, which does not diminish the intent of this letter. Point to Ponder

The church was experiencing heretics who taught false doctrine, so John wants to make a very clear distinction between light and truth. In chapter 1, the writer assures us that he has seen Jesus, he touched Jesus, and that everything he is telling the reader is truthful facts. He wants to impart the joy of this truth to his audience and to encourage them to be partakers of the same fellowship that he has with the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ was the complete opposite of Satan, the prince of darkness. The Lord Jesus Christ exudes light and he drives darkness away. Darkness and light cannot dwell together and light will always overpower darkness.

Point to Ponder

Those that are saved have assurance that our sins have been forgiven and will be forgiven. Jesus died for each and every one of us and those of us that have experienced his love now have the ability to walk in that love. We must live a life that mimics and mirrors the life of Christ and in doings so we can shine forth brightly with our testimony and others can see that we are believers.
