Let's open our bibles to 1 Corinthians 16. We have spent the last six weeks mining out the deep, rich, wonderful, theological truths of 1 Corinthians 15 and the clarity the Gospel gives to every part of life. I might be a little biased, but those were some great sermons. You might say chapter 15 is the Pikes Peak, pinnacle, or the crescendo of 1 Corinthians.

Now we have the first verse of chapter 16 that says, ''Now about the collection for the Lord's people.'' Paul says, 'Now let's talk about the offering.' What?! What a gear strip! Paul goes from the most popular topic ever in church (Eternal life) to the most hated topic ever in church (Giving money). It feels like we go from the penthouse to the outhouse. Paul says, ''Now that we've talked about the cross let's talk about the collection.''

If we're not careful, we might think chapter 16 has no connection or correlation to chapter 15 and be tempted to skip it. But that'd be a mistake. You see in chapter 15, Paul cataloged God generosity to us. He gave us Christ, forgiveness, hope, purpose, meaning. He gave us the hope of eternal life with eternal body. Now Paul says in ch16, ''In light of the generosity of God has shown to you, now let's talk about how you can respond generously and gratefully back to Him.'' Paul is not suggesting we need to repay God what He's done for us. Not possible. He's is just talking about a grateful, joyful, faithful, worshipful response to the amazing, unmatched generosity of our Heavenly Father. In other words, if you really believe in the RESURRECTION of Jesus, then you should gladly give your money to the WORK of Jesus. His generosity to you should be reflected by you. Look at what Paul says in V1-4 (READ)
