Day 344 December 10 - Ephesians 4, 5, and 6

The last three chapters deal with the church, the real church, the one that is seated with Christ in heavenly places, though we still have to live down here on this earth. In chapter 4 we see the church as a Changed man and the proper conduct of the church. In chapter 5 we see the church as a chaste bride that will one day be presented to the Lord without any spot or wrinkle, and the binding confession of the church. In chapter 6 we see the church as a committed soldier that must stand firm and solid in the midst of bold conflict.

Point to Ponder

In chapter 1, Paul admonishes the church to walk in a worthy manner, one that represents them as true followers of the Lord. The day that we became believers we were changed inwardly and it will works its way outwardly. The true follower of God will display traits of lowliness and meekness, along with longsuffering and a spirit of love that is patient with each other. The true trademark of the new man is his desire to keep the peace within the church. The believer will be a person of unity and peace, this characteristic is placed within us at the very moment of our salvation.

Point to Ponder

The book of Ephesians is so fluid and artistic as it paints portrait after portrait of the church as various subjects and characters. In chapter 5, we see the church as a bride, which as of now is not perfect, but will be in the end. The apostle tells the church to avoid the sinfulness of the unbeliever and to put on characteristics of Christ. As we live uprightly and strive for chasteness, we will become more and more like Jesus Christ.
