Refuel Your Joy (10 of 12)
Series: Philippians
Bob Ingle
Philippians 3:17-4:1
Please open your bibles to Philippians 3. The book of Philippians is a reminder to Christ followers of how to POSSESS, PROTECT, and PROJECT God given, Gospel purchased joy. Joy was never meant to be optional in following Christ; it is absolutely essential.
In the first two chapters, Paul is mainly focuses on our BELIEFS. In the second two chapters, Paul zeroes in on our BEHAVIOR. Right beliefs and right behavior are the key to experiencing and exuding the joy of the Lord. If you weren't here when we began this series, I gave my own working definition of what joy is because some get it confused with happiness and feeling good. Joy is...
The Assurance of my Soul that God is completely in control of all things...
the Attitude of my Heart that everything ultimately will be okay...and
the Ability of my Mind to praise God in every situation I encounter.
Joy protects you from falling apart when the circumstances of life aren't what you want them to be. Joy points to the source of your life and the security of your salvation and reminds you that you have a big God, a loving God, a powerful God, a wise God, and though you may not understand everything happening to you or around you, your heavenly Father does, and nothing ever happens to that isn't first Father-filtered. Joy isn't just something that happens to me or is beyond my control. While God is the source of my joy; my attitude and actions can help or hinder it. It involves all of me. It requires all of me. It affects all of me. Joy is something I must believe God to receive and fight my flesh in order to keep.
I've entitled our message today 'Joyful Living 101', not because it's superficial but because it is fundamental. Paul gives us some practical, fundamental truths about ways to refuel our joy. Look at:
Philippians 3:17-4:1: ''Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you ha ...
