Isaiah 38:4-6
God always answers our prayers because he cares about us.
Oswald Chambers (d. 1917) is best known for the devotional book My Utmost For His Highest. He was a chaplain to British soldiers in north Africa during WWI - ''Never make the blunder of trying to forecast the way God is going to answer your prayers.''
1. Sometimes God waits to answer them - so we learn to trust him. Samuel Rutherford - ''Set no time to the Lord the creator of time, for his time is always best.''
2. Other times God does not answer - because it is not his will. Thomas Brooks - ''You must distinguish between delays and denials.''
3. Sometimes he answers them right away - at that moment or day. Those are wonderful because they cause us to rejoice immediately. We experience the effect of our prayer directly and personally.
DIVINE ANSWER :4
It seems that after Isaiah delivered God's message to Hezekiah he departed when the king turned his face to the wall and prayed.
Then - as a result of Hezekiah's prayer and humility the Lord spoke to Isaiah again as he was leaving the court of the palace. II Kings 20:4 gives the background of God answering his prayer. Before Isaiah had gone out of the middle of the court the Lord spoke to him. He had only gone half way out of the palace.
This shows that God answered Hezekiah's prayer immediately. The word of the Lord came to Isaiah - with a second message. Matthew Poole - ''This shows God's great readiness to hear the sincere and fervent prayers of his children.''
Hezekiah's humble prayer had moved God to change the course of his life from being at the point of death to being given the promise of 15 more years to live.
Application
1. Sometimes God answers our prayer as soon as we ask him.
When that happens we should thank God, but not expect it.
2. We have a close relationship with God through prayer.
