Praise for Healing (6 of 6)
Series: Isaiah

Isaiah 38:17-20

Illness and sickness are the result of living in a sinful world. Adam and Eve's sin resulted in illness, sickness and death. While doctors and medicine can help heal our illness it is God
who does the healing by his divine power.

Charles Spurgeon - ''There can be no power to heal in medicine of itself; the healing energy must flow from the divine hand.''Psalm 30:2 O Lord my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me.

Psalm 103:2-3 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases . . .

When we have been healed we should thank and praise God. It is acknowledging that he has restored us back to health. It is the creature acknowledging the goodness of the creator. It is the sick acknowledging the great physician.

A thankful heart acknowledges our dependence on God.

King Hezekiah was thankful for God healing him and expressed his heartfelt gratitude in the closing verses of his psalm (:17-20).

LOVE FOR GOD :17

Deliverance

Welfare (KJB peace, NIV benefit) - Heb. shalom which means wholeness of body, mind and spirit. It is what Adam and Eve had in the Garden of Eden before they sinned against God.

Shalom is being complete and whole the way God created us before sin ruined our bodies, minds and souls so we are broken.

Bitterness (NIV anguish) - Heb. sad or sorrowful experience (:15). Job 10:1 I speak in the bitterness of my soul. He had lost all of his possessions, his 10 children and his health.

Hezekiah had almost died because of an infection (:1) which was a result of a boil (:21). God had graciously restored him back to health and promised him he would live another 15 years.

Application

1. Because we live in a fallen world we will experience sickness. Every year we experience a flu season - some worse than others.

2. Some sicknesses are more serious than others. ...
