Hebrews 11:4; Genesis 4:105
Stephen Covey is the author of a best-selling book titled, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Covey took the time to study successful people. The more he studied the more he noticed life-patterns. Some people had mastered habits that almost guaranteed their success.
For example, the second habit is, Begin w/the End in Mind. My eldest grandson took up golf last summer when he spent a month at our house. When he got home his dad got him a set of clubs and Angie took him to the driving range as often as she could.
Like most first-time golfers, Marshall's goal is to hit a homerun! He's got a real nice Ken Griffey, Jr. swing! But, as I've been trying to tell him, good golfers pay attention to distance and direction. Long does not always mean better.
We were on No. 5 at the Muni last Saturday when I tried using a little Stephen Covey on my 12-year-old grandson. I asked, ''Marshall, what do you want to do on this hole?'' He said, ''Hit the green!'' Then he amended his answer to, ''Put the ball on the green and in the hole!''
Then I asked, ''Where's the flag on the green?'' The flag was tucked on the extreme right side of the green, in front of a bunker, behind an old bunker, and across a small pond. Then I said, ''It's easier to hit the green coming in from the left side of the fairway.'' Marshal hit his drive down the extreme right side of the fairway!
The only way for him to get his ball on the green safely was to shoot for the extreme left side of the green, almost 40 yards from the flag! Marshall ended up putting from Boone County into Montgomery County!
He needed binoculars to see the flag! If he had only begun w/the end on mind!
Hebrews 11 has been called the Bible's Hall of Fame of faith. Great men and women of the Bible have been highlighted because they were highly effective in their faith. If you take the time to read the chapter ...
