Forgetfulness that's Fatal
Have you ever forgotten anything that was of importance, especially to someone else? I will ''NEVER'' forget the day that I ''FORGOT'' my wife's birthday. The thing about birthdays is that they never change, because they are always on the same date, year after year.
The year of infamy was 2017; the date was September 9th, which I had remembered for 39 years. I was lucky enough to marry my high school sweetheart, Denise, whom I met on the first day of high school in 1978. We dated for three years and were married in January of 1981. The date of her birthday was etched in my mind and we have always taken all of those dates seriously. We always remember birthdays, Valentine's Day, and the date of our anniversary, but for some reason this one slipped my mind.
I wish I had a good excuse, but I don't, because my wife had reminded me that her birthday was coming up. Then to add fuel to the fire, my daughter, who was born on Valentine's Day of 1988, had even called and reminded me.
I woke up on my wife's birthday and went to breakfast and told her bye. On that particular day I went about my daily business and never gave it a thought. Then I asked my daughter where we were going to go and eat on that particular night and she said that we were all meeting to eat and have cake.
Then it hit me and I broke out into a cold sweat. I immediately realized that I had forgotten to even recognize my wife's birthday, much less buy her a present. It was Friday evening and there was not one thing I could do to disguise my oversight and forgetfulness.
It was late ...
