SUMMARY: The account of Joseph in Genesis illustrates the doctrine of the sovereignty (control) of God. In this sermon we learn how the sovereign fatherhood of God teaches us to pass on ''the blessing'' to our children.

INTRO: You dads are important. That bears emphasizing in this day and age and culture. In ''THE ATLANTIC'' July/August 2010 edition, Pamela Paul wrote an article entitled: ''Are Father's Necessary?'' Her conclusion: ''The bad news for Dad is that despite common perception, there's nothing objectively essential about his contribution.''

In the February (2010) issue of the Journal of Marriage and Family, Judith Stacey, a professor of sociology at New York University, and Timothy Biblarz, a demographer from the University of Southern California state, ''Based strictly on the published science, one could argue that two women parent better on average than a woman and a man, or at least than a woman and man with a traditional division of family labor.''

Author Peggy Drexler has a book entitled ''Raising Boys Without Men: How Maverick Moms Are Creating the Next Generation of Exceptional Men.''

I could go on citing more examples from articles and books and but I won't. I just want to contextualize my point this morning about the importance of Dads. Dads are important. Fathers are necessary. I could cite studies like that of University of Texas Sociology Professor Mark Regnerus (2012) who published some controversial and eye-opening findings in his New Family Structure Study (NFSS).
