Ephesians 5:21-33
Two women were talking when one of them noticed the other's diamond wedding ring. She said, ''I have never seen a diamond so stunningly beautiful and large!'' The other woman looked at her hand and said, ''Yes, It is the Klopman diamond and it is one of the largest and most valuable diamonds in the world but it is cursed.'' A little surprised the other woman responded, ''Cursed? How?'' With a grimace the lady responded, ''It's cursed because it comes with Mr. Klopman.''
As we continue to look at what the Bible says about marriage, I want us to see how we as husbands can be a blessing and not a curse to our wives and our families. One of the best ways we can be a good father to our children is learn how to be a good husband to their mom. That begins by understanding the origin and importance of marriage, something we discussed in detail last week but it's also something I will remind us of over the next two weeks as we look at how God intends this marital relationship of a husband and wife to work.
Marriage originated in the heart of God. He is the creator of marriage and such He has determined how the marriage relationship should work.
One writer likened marriage to a dance. In a dance one person leads and the other follows.
If husband and wife are both trying to lead at the same time, then things will get very messy and ugly. The marriage dance will be anything but beautiful. If they do, you wind up with a stalemate and a stale marriage where there is a continual power struggle between husband and wife over who is supposed to lead.
In this dance the husband has the responsibility and privilege to lead as he listens to the music of Christ. Because the wife hears the same music, they can keep time in their own minds and move as one.
