How to Become a Hall of Fame Father
Ernest L. Easley
Ephesians 6:1-4
Now as we continue our study through the book Ephesians under the heading, ''One in Christ,'' on this Father's Day Sunday, take God's word and turn with me to Ephesians 6 where we're going to hear the apostle Paul speaking to children and their Fathers.
Haven't you been blessed Sunday by Sunday from this study through Ephesians under the heading, ''One in Christ?'' Frankly, we need reminding of this oneness in Christ and do you know why? Because it's hard work, that's why! You get two Baptists together and you'll get three opinions!
Unity is hard work! That's why Paul tells us back in chapter 4.3 to be ''endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.'' Do you know what this word ''endeavoring'' (spoudazo) means? It speaks of being eager, even zealous, to pay serious attention to. You could say it this way, ''Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.'' It literally says, ''Make every effort and keep on making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.''
Hey, it takes hard work ''...to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace,'' doesn't it?
Do you know why our unity is so important? It shows the world the difference Jesus makes in our life! Even lost people know that followers of Jesus ought to get along! And when they see our unity or hear about our unity, they say, ''There really must be something to that church thing. There really must be something to that Jesus thing.''
That's why Jesus included in His prayer for us that's recorded in John 17.20, ''I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word, that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that you sent Me.''
Now wonder we read in Proverb 6.16, ''These six things the LORD hates ....'' Verse 19b, ''.. and one who sow ...
