HOPE FOR SERENITY
Tape Two
By Pastor Fenton Moorhead
For our scripture this morning, if you have an outline and you'd like to follow there you can, or if
you'd like to turn in your Bible to Luke chapter 12, beginning at verse 13, Luke 12:13, and there are Bibles
in the pew racks. This is a parable that Jesus told in response to a request, and there is such rich
information here, inspiration for our lives, and this is so contemporary in every way.
And so would you stand with me once again right now, as we look to the Word of God, and I'm
going to read aloud, and you follow along. The scripture in the outline, if you're looking there is under
Roman numerals I and II.
"Someone in the crowd said to Him, Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.
Jesus replied, Man who appointed Me a judge or an arbiter between you? Then He said to them, Watch out
and be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his
possessions."
"And He told them this parable, The ground of a rich man produced a good crop. He thought to
himself, what shall I do, I have no place to store my crops? Then he said, This is
what I'll do, I'll tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods,
and I'll say to myself, you have plenty of good things laid up for many years, take life easy, eat drink and be
merry."
"But God said to him, You fool, this very night your life will be demanded from you; then who
will get what you have prepared for yourself? This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for
himself, but is not rich toward God."
Let's pray once again. "Lord, take this scripture today and help us to see how it impacts all of our
lives. We live in a society, among a people who for many years have believed that life does consist of
