THE RACE OF LIFE
1) The Race of life is A TIMED RACE
I Cor. 9:24 ''In a race everyone runs''
When you run a ''timed'' race you wear a chip somewhere on your body, like your shoelace, that automatically tracks you from the time you start to the time you cross the finish line.
The race of life is a timed race because we all have a fixed amount of time to live. Death creates a sense of urgency. Racers do not meander toward the finish line, they run toward it. They work hard to get faster. Likewise, thoughtful people realize that there is a sense of urgency to life because life is short. Too short.
Job 14:1 ''How frail is humanity! How short is life.''
Jn.9:4 ''(Jesus) We must quickly carry out the tasks assigned to us by the one who sent us. The night is coming.''
All of our lives we're racing against death. Let's remember that death was never in God's original plan for any of us. Death came about as a curse, the consequence of sin and rebellion against God. Therefore, the Bible clearly portrays death as our ultimate enemy. In I Cor. 15:26 Paul calls death the enemy. It is the enemy of God, the enemy of Christ and the enemy of mankind.
Jack Cottrell: ''When a person dies, he is not just doing what comes naturally. He has been overtaken and overwhelmed by an alien attacker that has pursued him since his conception in the role of a relentless enemy.' ...
