Dealing With Your Guilt (7 of 7)
Series: Emotion and The Psalm
Will McGee
Psalm 130
INTRODUCTION: When I was in grade school, even through high school... There were a number of times where the loud speaker would come on during class... And it would say something along the lines of, ''Excuse me, we need to see Will McGee in the office.'' No explanation... Just, ''You are needed in the office.'' The walk from the classroom to the school office... Was always torturous. Agonizing... ''What did I do?''
I would be running through all these possible scenarios in my mind...
Couldn't think of anything concrete that I had done wrong... But I was still terrified.
The whole was usually for something totally benign... No trouble... Sometimes it was to take a picture for the yearbook, or it was because I had lost my wallet and someone found it...
But when I didn't know what I was being called for... My mind immediately assumed I was guilty of something. Even though I couldn't recall anything I had done wrong.
Maybe you never had that experience... But perhaps a friend has called you and said... ''Hey, can we get a drink this evening after work? I have something I need to talk to you about.''
You spend the whole day wondering... ''I wonder what this is about.... Have I done something?''
We all live with a sense that we are guilty... None of us stand without fault. Even if we can't place our finger on anything specific... We still live in fear of being exposed.
Others of us... Have done things... We don't have to guess what we are guilty of... We know.... We have to live with it.
Guilt is a feeling that all of us know well... It is also something that the Bible speaks of constantly.
The story of the Bible tells us what to do with our guilt...
Today, we are finishing our series on the Psalms... And we will finish with Psalm 130 as we look at how to deal with our Guilt.
PSALM 130:1-8
