The Simple Truth About God's Love (5 of 15)
Series: What to Preach When You Don't Know What to Preach

John 3:16
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.NKJV
Except for perhaps ''Jesus wept'', this verse is likely the best known and most beloved verse in all the Bible. We were memorizing this verse when we were mere tots in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Additionally, I don't suppose any single verse has been preached on more or used to lead someone to faith in Christ than John 3:16. I'm sure someone must be thinking, ''Hasn't everything already been said about this verse that could be said?'' No doubt this assumption is correct. I can't imagine coming up with some new insight on this verse no one ever thought about before.
But, why would this be necessary. Why not simply proclaim this truth of this wonderful verse as it stands? Some verses are so famous we hesitate to preach on them and this is a shame. It's very obvious that God's love is the central theme of this verse and I cannot imagine a single verse of scripture that describes it more eloquently. This is a desperately lost world that can only be rescued through a generous application of God's love.
Look with me this morning at the simple truth of God's love.

He loves those who are lovable as well as those who are altogether unlovely and there are plenty of those.
This doesn't mean God is accepting of everyone. Our modern world demands ...
