The Simple Truth About the Great Falling Away (11 of 15)
Series: What to Preach When You Don't Know What to Preach

1 Timothy 4:1
4 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,

What do we know about the second coming? We know a number of things but the main thing we know is that Jesus is going to come again. When that will be is anyone's guess. Many have taken in hand to predict the time when Jesus will return for His church but so far everyone has been universally wrong. Jesus warned His disciples against a desire to know the exact time of His coming because even He didn't have access to that information.
However, we do know that certain signs will precede His coming. These signs will be clearly observable and easily identifiable. According to Paul the great falling away will be one of the most recognizable of these signs. Unfortunately, this is a sign we don't talk a lot about. I bet many of us have never heard a sermon on the subject. I'm not sure if I've ever preached an entire sermon on it myself. I personally believe it's important we talk about it today because it's very likely this falling away has already begun.
Time is getting short. God's prophetic clock is beginning to tick down. To quote Billy Graham, ''The second coming of Christ is closer now than it's ever been before.'' If indeed we are in the midst of the great falling away the time of Jesus' appearance will shortly be upon us.
Look at what we discover about the great falling away in this single verse of Scripture.
