1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. NKJV What is the rapture? It's to be noted that this word never appears in scripture. However, while the word is not there the event itself occupies a prominent place in the Bible. Last week we talked about the Great Falling Away. This week we'll discuss the very next event after that falling away has been concluded and the age of grace is over. There is coming a time when the Lord Jesus will descend from heaven. He'll not come all the way to the earth but will call His people to come up to Him leaving this place so polluted with sin.
When will the rapture occur? That's anybody's guess and many have attempted to discover its exact time. This has proven to be a foolish pursuit for two reasons:
1- So far everyone has been wrong;
2- Even Jesus doesn't know.
We may not know the exact time but we know the rapture will occur. It must occur because God's Holy Word promises it will! Notice the simple message of the rapture in these two verses.
THE PARTICULARS OF THE RAPTURE
16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
When time has run out on the age of grace and every sign has been displayed the rapture will occur. Jesus alone will be in charge of the rapture and will orchestrate all of its details. When the time is right He'll escort us to our new home in heaven. Look at the particulars of the rapture:
1- The Lord will descend;
2- The Lord will shout and His voice ...
