What is the real essence of this Calvary, Cross dying, Easter, and Resurrection stuff? While the church seems to be enthusiastic about Resurrection Sunday, and there is some anticipation emphasis that leads up to that Sunday. But at the close of the day, what is it about? Where is the essence beyond the moment, beyond the Sunday, beyond the Lilies, dinner, programs, music, garments? Does the essence of this moment die as quick as the Easter Lily?
What can we appropriate to our lives about the Christ of Easter, Resurrection, and Calvary? Where is the depth of what this means to the church? If we are not careful, the spirit of Resurrection will wither sooner than the Lilies, and like the garments we hasten to put on for Easter, we will just as quickly take the garments of the Resurrection emphasis off just as quickly.
The real test of the believer and the church is to make the spirit of Resurrection a daily and weekly encounter for the believers and non-believers. This should not be seasonal, but this ought to be a permanent presence among the people of faith. But it also must have a practical and personal essence to every true believer.
A traveler in Switzerland became uncertain of his way, and he was a little turned around. He stopped and asked a young boy by the wayside which way was the city of Kandersteg. The young man said I do not know where the city is, yet I have heard about it so much, and one day I hope to get there. But here is what we know around here he said. Lots of people get to this area and get turned around, and they lose their sense of directions here. But you see that huge stone right there, pointing his finger, and the man said yes. Just go to that stone and take a right and that road will lead you to the city.
