Love One Another (1 of 4)
Series: One Another

John 13:34-35
When you read the New Testament, you find around fifty commands that include the words ''one another.'' Which is pretty amazing, and here's what that tells us: no matter what else you think the Christian faith is about, one huge thing that it's definitely about is relationships. Right? God really cares about how we treat each other. And isn't it interesting that the biggest problems we experience in life usually have to do with our relationships?
So for the next four weeks, we're going to focus on four of the key ''one another'' commands of the New Testament. And I want to invite you to take this personally. All of us have relationships, right? Possibly spouses...parents...kids...friends...neighbors. Take this personally, and be honest with yourself, and allow the Word of God and the Spirit of God to enter in and do their transforming work in your life.
So...it was Thursday night. The night before Good Friday. Jesus had spent three years training a group of followers, who would become the leaders after he left. And on that night, he gathered them together for a last meal. So when you open up John chapter 13, two things happen before we get to the verses we're going to look at today. First, Jesus gets up from the table and washes the feet of his disciples-which was a very unexpected thing for the leader to do. And then, Jesus predicts that one of the disciples, who had been with them for three years, would wind up betraying Jesus, and right after that, Judas slips out of the room. And that brings us to our passage for today: John 13, verses 34 and 35:
34 ''A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.'' This is the Word of God.
From this passage I want to talk about three things today: What Love Is, Where Love Comes From, and Why Love Matters ...
