God's Household under and for the Gospel (1 of 3)
Series: What is Church
Patrick Edwards
1 Timothy 3:14-4:5
Introduction
Imagine that you found yourself raised on a deserted island with no exposure ever to any kind of church, but you just found yourself there with the Bible, what would you picture the church to look and be like? Well last week our elders together sought to answer that question, ''What is Church?''. We discussed how we as FBC have answered that question in the past. Then we looked at how churches all around have typically answered that question. And then we proposed, instead, the biblical image of the church as a family and identified four key components of that reality. Finally, we fleshed out a bit what that means and looks like for FBC. We discussed the importance of committing to the family, through church membership, the sharing of one's talents and resources, and then being a unified church of gospel communities.
In light, then, of these biblical teachings on the church, what we want to do over the next three weeks is explore how, then, a local church should to be organized for it to thrive. He's speaking to the behavior, the conduct, the lifestyle of the people. The implication of this truth then is that if we are the church, the household of God, then we must act that way. In order for us to fully function as God's household we must behave ...
