Identifying with Jesus' Mission (3 of 3)
Series: The Lord's Supper

1 Corinthians 11:26
The Necessity of the Lord's Supper to the Mission of the Church
Introduction
We're in our third week of looking at the ordinance of the Lord's Supper. We took this excursus principally because of Jesus' instruction to us in John 6, Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread the fathers ate, and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever. (John 6:53-58)
In John 6 we saw that what Jesus calls us to is to completely identify ourselves with Him by His grace alone through faith alone. But, we also have acknowledged how these words are intentionally sacramental. In other words, these verses also point us to the ordinance of the Lord's Supper, this gift of Jesus to the church that is intended to help us in identifying with Him. And wevspent one week discussing the Supper broadly and how we are to look to Jesus and identify with Him in the Supper. Last week we explored how the Supper helps us to identify with Jesus' body, the church. This week, we look at how the Supper helps us to identify with Jesus' mission.

The Lord's Supper is a vital part of the mission of the church. You see starting with the book of Genesis, we see that God has c ...
