Journey Through the Bible Week 46 (46 of 52)
Series: 365 Day Journey Through the Bible
Donald Cantrell
John 19 - Acts 15
Day 316 November 12 - John 19, 20, and 21
John gives us some very different details about the Lord's crucifixion and he intentionally spares us many of the details of the abuse and the slaying of Jesus. The soldiers mocked the Lord by placing a crown upon his head, but not just any crown; this was a crown of thorns or a crown of mockery. Pilate did not find any grounds to crucify the Lord but had to give in when they begin to bring up the name of Caesar. The people banded together and sought for the release of Barabbas, the thief and the murderer. Pilate gives into the mob and releases Barabbas and turns Jesus over to the soldiers and from there they march him to Golgotha. Upon nailing him to the cross, the soldiers begin to divide his garments between the four and the cast lots so that one mane would win his coat, rather than ripping it apart. This was a matter of prophecy and shows just how detailed the word of God is concerning prophetic events.
Point to Ponder
The resurrection was one of the most awesome events known to mankind, yet the disciples would struggle mightily with it. Let us not be too harsh upon those men, how would we react if someone we knew came forth from the grave after being buried for three days? Jesus begins to show himself to his followers and over the next forty days he will help his men reignite their faith, to the point of turning the world upside down.
I - The Crucifixion (John 19)
II - The Resurrection (John 20)
III - The Summation (John 21)
Point to Ponder
Jesus begins to introduce himself to the ten and then to the eleven. On one occasion Thomas was absent and on the next revelation Thomas was present. Jesus told Thomas that there would be others that would believe and not be able to see, to feel, and to touch his body.
