BECOMING LIKE JESUS IN ATTITUDE
Scripture: MATTHEW 20:10-11, MATTHEW 20:15, MATTHEW 20:17-28, PHILIPPIANS 2:5-7, PSALMS 37:1-2
THE YEAR OF THE SERVANT
MARK 10:45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served,
but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
PHIL. 2:3-8 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit,
but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of
you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the
interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of
Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider
equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself
nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in
human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he
humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a
cross!
IN THE TIME OF CHRIST THERE WAS A CLASS OF PEOPLE CALLED SLAVES
OR SERVANTS (SOME SAY ONE HALF OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE WERE SLAVES),
AND IT WAS THE LOWEST CLASS.
HOW DID ONE BECOME A SERVANT?
HIRED SERVANTS - COULD QUIT

JOH 10:12 The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the
sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep
and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it.
10:13 The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares
nothing for the sheep.
SLAVES - OWNED, PROPERTY TO BE BOUGHT OR SOLD.
DOULOS "IN BONDAGE"
1. YOU WERE CONQUERED.
2. YOU BECAME INDEBTED, AND WERE SOLD TO PAY OFF THE DEBT.
3. YOU WERE BORN INTO A FAMILY IN SERVATUDE.
JESUS USED THE CONCEPT OF SERVANT AND MASTER TO EMPHASIZE
LOYALTY AS IN MAT 6: 24 "No one can serve two masters. Either
