There was a couple that was celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, their golden wedding anniversary. You know in our church we have three couples that are getting ready to celebrate 50 years of marriage. It's a big deal when you celebrate 50 years of marriage. And this couple was celebrating, and they had all their friends together. And the wife, obviously they'd been married a while, and so she was older, and her hearing wasn't all that good. And the husband gave a special toast to his wife, and he said, ''My darling, after 50 years I've found you tried and true.'' And she didn't hear very well. Everybody clapped. They thought that was so nice. And she said, ''What!'' He said, ''After 50 years I've found you tried and true.'' She said, ''What!'' He said, ''After 50 years I've found you tried and true.'' She said, ''After 50 years I'm sick of you, too.'' I had nothing to do with the couples getting ready to celebrate, but it has everything to do with the apostle Paul. And the message I've entitled tonight is called ''Tried and True,'' because Paul was tried and he was true.

Now, when he writes to the Galatians, remember, as we started this series last week, we talked about the fact that Paul on his first missionary journey with Barnabas. They went up into this region called Galatia into the southern region and they went into places called Iconium and Lystra and Derbe and Pisidian Antioch, those cities, and they won disciples. And they developed churches there and planted churches there. And as soon as they left those places, they weren't gone very long before Jews came in and the Judaizers, they were those who had a different gospel. And their gospel was, ''Yes, Jesus died on the cross. And, yes, Jesus is Messiah. But you have to become a Jew.'' And Paul was preaching to Gentiles and preaching about grace.
