If you have your Bible, please turn in the Old Testament to the Book of Ezekiel, Ezekiel chapter 28. We begin a new series today that I've entitled, Fake News, Fake News: Exposing the Lies of the Devil.
Now, fake news is something we hear a lot about today in the news. And when we hear news, it's difficult to know, is this true or is this false? I looked up on the internet a definition of fake news and it said this: ''Fake news is journalistic propaganda that consist of deliberate misinformation spread in print, broadcast, or social media with the intent to mislead in order to gain financially, politically, or in some other way.'' Fake news is not new. We read in the history books about what was going on in Nazi Germany during the 30's when Hitler was coming to power and he had Nazi propaganda. It was fake news all over Germany. And in that day and age, you didn't have a way to check, is this true or not? And when you control all the media, you can really blast out the fake news.
But fake news didn't start with Nazi Germany. Fake news goes all the way back to the early days of creation. It goes all the way back to the fake newscaster. And the fake newscaster is the devil. And Jesus, in John chapter 8, was arguing with those Jews, and they were coming at Him. They were having this discourse, and it was getting, no doubt, pretty heated. And they said to Him when they said, ''Well, we have our Father, and that Father is God. We were not born of fornication,'' which was a slam against Jesus because people knew that Jesus was the son of Mary. They even called Him that and asked Him, ''Are You the son of Mary'' - not the son of Joseph - ''The son of Mary. You're the illegitimate kid,'' because news got there that Mary was pregnant before she was married. So, they said to Jesus, ''We're not born of fornication. We have one Father, even God.'' And Jesus answered in John 8:44 and sai ...
