How many people have heard the name Vinko Bogataj? Anybody ever heard the name Vinko Bogataj? Most of us haven't. Really, well, nobody raised their hands, so I guess nobody has. But many of us have seen Vinko Bogataj on TV for years. He's been on TV for years, and we've seen him, and we've watched him, but we don't know his name. Vinko Bogataj is a Yugoslavian. He was a ski jumper; actually, a ski flyer - the guys that go racing down the ramp and out into the wild blue. He was an Olympic hopeful from Yugoslavia. And on March in 1970, he was in an event in Oberstdorf, West Germany. The weather was bad. It's March of 1970. And ABC's Wide World of Sports just happened to be covering the event.
