LOOKING FOR CHRIST-LIKE HUMILITY

GETTING REAL: LOOKING FOR CHRIST-LIKE HUMILITY
MANY OF JESUS' STATEMENTS SWITCHED THINGS AS THE WORLD SEES
THEM.
MAT 23:11 The greatest among you will be your servant.
MAT 23:12 For whoever exalts himself will be humbled,
and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
Mat. 5:3 "Blessed are the POOR IN SPIRIT, for theirs is the
kingdom of heaven."
WHEN JESUS CHRIST SPOKE THESE WORDS THEY WERE ABSOLUTELY
REVOLUTIONARY. THEY CALL TO MIND:
PSA 34:18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves
those who are crushed in spirit.
PSA 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken
and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
IN THE TIME OF CHRIST THESE VERSES WERE NOT POINTS OF EMPHASIS.
INSTEAD, A RELATIONSHIP WITH THE KINGDOM OF GOD WAS TO BE
ACHIEVED BY THOSE CAPABLE OF PERFORMING MANY COMPLICATED
RELIGIOUS DUTIES THAT CONFUSED EVERYDAY PEOPLE!
THERE WAS LITTLE HOPE FOR SINNERS.
WHEN JESUS ANNOUNCED THAT THE KINGDOM WAS OPEN TO THOSE WHO ARE
WILLING TO HUMBLE THEMSELVES AND WERE IN FACT "POOR"
SPIRITUALLY, THERE WERE MANY SMILES IN THE CROWD AMONG THE
NON-RELIGIOUS.
THE "PROUD" IN SPIRIT WERE ALWAYS IN OPPOSITION TO JESUS. AFTER
ALL, THEY REALLY DIDN'T NEED WHAT HE HAD TO OFFER. THEY CAME TO
CHECK HIM OUT THEOLOGICALLY AND RELIGIOUSLY AND OFFER THEIR
OPINIONS.
