Hagar's Tears of Triumph
Donald Cantrell
Genesis 21: 9 - 19
This is a Mother's Day sermon about the value, the virtue, and victory of Hagar's tears. Hagar's faith had dwindled and her water bottle was depleted, but the Lord had not forgotten her or his promise.
I - Hagar and her Disturbing Disruption (9 - 12)
II - Hagar and her Deadly Doubt (13)
III - Hagar and her Deep Despair (14 - 16)
IV - Hagar and her Destined Deliverance (17 - 19)
This sermon contains a fully alliterated outline, with sub-points.
Theme: ''Hagar had to play second fiddle, but she persevered''
In our sermon today we will see how that Hagar, the mother of Ishmael, is going to have to deal with an unexpected disruption in her life. Life is tough enough without having to deal with the unexpected and unwanted disruptions and disturbances.
Hagar was a single mom, she had to play second fiddle to Sarah, and her son was going to have to play second fiddle to Isaac, the son of Sarah.
We are celebrating Mothers Day and hopefully we can adequately honor those mothers that are trying their best to get by, as they face the hardships of life. If not for mothers like Hagar, where would we be in this society?
One of the toughest things I think there is in life is to see that mother doing everything she can to get her family through day to day life. We live in such an age of deadbeat dads, which if not for ''Motherly Heroes'' like Hagar, where would we, be?
How many here are facing unwanted disturbances? Maybe you prayed about taking that new job and once you got the job, things changed and you ended up unemployed?
You prayed and prayed about having the perfect family, yet things did not go as planned and you really cannot understand how things played out?
There has never been a time when you did not intend on laying your bills out and paying them on time, every time, but then this happened and that happened, and before you knew it, there was not enough money.
