Journey Through the Bible Week 42 (42 of 52)
Series: 365 Day Journey Through the Bible
Donald Cantrell
Mark 1-14
Day 288 October 15 - Mark 1, 2, and 3
In actuality the book of Mark was the first book that was chronologically written. It was one of the first books of the New Testament that was written and most likely it was penned from the city of Rome, before A.D. 63. Of the four gospel writers, only two of them were Apostles. The gospel of Luke was written by Dr. Luke, who was a good friend of Paul. Then we find that Mark was close friends with Peter and most claim that the book of Mark was really ''Peter's Gospel.'' In the book of 1 Peter 5: 13, we find that Simon Peter called ''Marcus'' his son in the faith.
Point to Ponder
It is very important for us to grasp the importance of the ministry of John the Baptist. He was the forerunner of Jesus Christ and laid the ground work for Christ to come onto the scene. The Lord was baptized by The Baptist and God opened up the heavens to verify that Christ was his precious son.
I - The Baptist Introduced (Mark 1)
II - The Baptism Illuminated (Mark 1)
III - The Battle Initiated (Mark 1)
IV - The Men That Helped (Mark 2)
V - The Man's Withered Hand (Mark 3)
VI - The Multitude That's Healed (Mark 3)
Point to Ponder
Upon being baptized by ''The Baptist'' the Holy Spirit ushers Jesus to the wilderness where he would battle and overcome the onslaught of Satan.
Point to Ponder
In chapters 2 and 3, we see miracle after miracle as the Lord displays himself as ''The Servant.'' In being a servant, Jesus Christ is allowing everyone to see that he was truly in touch with every class of people and that he could feel their pain, their perplexity, and in turn he could offer them a way out. The way of the cross would prove to help everyone out of the pit that engulfs them. Jesus heals people from every walk of life and is abundantly adequate to do his job.
