Mat 20:20 KJV - Then came to him the mother of Zebedee's children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.

Mat 20:21 KJV - And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom.

Mat 20:22 KJV - But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.

Theme: “The mother that had godly ambitions for her children”

In our sermon today we will celebrate the importance of Mothers and see a refreshing story of a “mom” that desired the best for her boys. Salome was the wife of Zebedee, the mother of James and John, and in all probability the sister of Mary, the mother of Jesus.

The majority of sermons on this passage chastise this mother for making her request. Jesus did not chastise her; he only told her that she did not know what she was asking. There was no crime in her seeking the best seats for her sons; Salome wanted her boys to excel in the Kingdom of God.

We need more mothers that will intercede on the behalf of their children, pleading with God that they may excel in their Christian walk. Why is it that we have parents that would spend the night in hell if their son or daughter could be the most popular student at school, but they frown at their child excelling for the Lord?

We live in a very warped society and it begins in the church. We have parents that will allow their children to chase after everything but God. We teach them that school is more important than God. Money is ...
