HOW TO HANDLE HURTS POSITIVELY!

Sunday morning, February 24, 1991

HOW DO WE HURT? 3 WAYS:
- PHYSICAL,
- EMOTIONAL (FEAR, WORRY),
- RELATIONAL (MOST DIFFICULT..IT IF A FACT OF LIFE THAT YOU WILL
BE HURT BY PEOPLE, REJECTION, UNKINDNESS, RIP OFFS,
DISAPPOINTMENT)

Psalm 34:18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves
those who are crushed in spirit.

You are never closer to God than when you are hurting.

SIX THINGS THAT DON'T WORK:

1. DENIAL. Don't ignore your hurt.

Clint Eastwood approach to pain. Bite the bullet. suffer through
it until you explode. MACHO. SUFFER IN SILENCE.

Psalm 32:3 "When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my
groaning all day long." (my bones hurt!)

"What am I pretending not to know?" KID ON DRUGS? SPOUSE NOT
RESPONSIVE ANYMORE?

Why do we pretend? Because we think if we deny it will go away.
WHAT PROBLEM?

Procrastination is the sign of denial.

ONE OF THESE DAYS...DENTIST, COUNSELING,

We always postpone what is painful. Denying a hurt.

Denying a hurt never heals it, it only makes it worse!

Procrastination turns minor problems into major.
Postponing pain never makes the pain less...it makes it more!

Time heals everything? Never sat in a waiting room. Time often
festers the problem. The infection goes deeper. If confrontation
is the key, confront. If prayerful waiting is the key, pray. If
forgiveness is the medicine, forgive.
