Joshua 1
INTRO: Take your Bible this morning and turn with me to Joshua chapter 1 if you would. We are picking up where we left off last week when we began a series of studies through this exciting, challenging and inspiring Old Testament book that we are calling ''Victorious.''
What we're going to discover as we look into the life of Joshua is how the Lord enabled him to:
Take the lead after the death of Moses.
Conquer the Promised Land of Canaan.
Face the enemies that were in the land and his own heart.
See banks overflow and walls tumble and giants fall.
Show what it takes to have a strong, courageous faith that enables us to really live and daily experience the victorious Christian life.
I love the Lord's command and encouragement to Joshua that's in this verse...
''Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.'' (Joshua 1:9)
Now, this morning we're going to finish a study that we began last week dealing with the call to courageous faith that we find in these beginning verses of Joshua chapter 1.
(I guess that's one of the major changes in my preaching as I've gotten just a little bit older. When I was a younger preacher I wanted to make sure that I finished it, now I just want to make sure that you get it.)
So, if you were here last week you'll remember that I shared with you how victory isn't an emphasis of the Christian life; it is the essence of the Christian life.
We don't fight for victory; we fight from victory.
Victory is to be the norm of the Christian life, and anything else or less is a cheap, ''Times Square,'' knockoff, imitation of the real thing.
Jesus said in ...
''I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.'' (John 10:10)
I love the promise and praise that Paul gives in 2nd Corinthians 2:1 ...
