Joshua 3:7 - 4:24
INTRO: Take you Bibles now this morning and turn with me to Joshua, chapter 3 if you would. If you're our guest this morning, we are in a series of studies through this daring and dramatic Old Testament book that we're entitling ''Victorious,'' and what we're learning in and through this study is what it takes to have a strong, courageous faith.
In Joshua, chapter 3, what you'll find is that the Children of Israel are standing on the banks of the Jordan River.
Behind them is the wilderness where they have wandered for 40 years.
In front of them, on the other side of the Jordan River, is the land of Canaan - that land that God has promised to them.
And in these chapters and verses, what you're going to see is one of the greatest miracles that God performed in the life of the Children of Israel.
You see, the crossing of the Jordan River is one of the major events in all of the Bible.
As a matter of fact, as you study the history of the Children of Israel, what you'll discover is that their history is in many ways connected to their geography. In other words, you can mark their progression and their walk with God by several geographical events.
Egypt
The Red Sea
The Wilderness
Jordan
Canaan.
Those five geographical locations are very important if you are going to understand the history and the progression of the Children of Israel.
Remember: when we read these things in the Old Testament, we aren't just reading some dried up, dusty, dead history. What we're reading about is the movement and miracles of the Living God in the lives of His people. Because what God did for His children in the Old Testament teaches us what God can do in our lives today.
1st Corinthians 10:11 tells us that ''...all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition...''
You see, what we're going to be reading about this morning, s ...
