And The Walls Came Tumbling Down (7 of 13)

Joshua 6
INTRO: Take your Bibles now this morning and turn with me to Joshua, chapter 6 if you would. The Old Testament book of Joshua, the sixth chapter and when you find your place there just put your finger there on verse one and we'll begin our study there in just a few moments.
We are in a series of studies through this daring and dynamic book that we've entitled, ''Victorious: Strong, Courageous, Faith.''
So far in our study we've seen where -
Joshua and the Children of Israel have crossed over the Jordan River on dry ground.
They are finally standing on Canaan soil.
They have removed the reproach of the Wilderness and have once again started observing the Passover.
They have completely and explicitly followed the commands of God.
Now they are able - physically and spiritually - to begin the conquest of Canaan.
Now they are ready to claim their inheritance: the Promised Land - that land that flowed with milk and honey.
BUT - as it is with most things in this life that are worth having, the victory won't be easy, and it won't come cheap.
Jericho was an opportunity for them to stretch their faith and flex their military muscles and experience the victory of conquest.
Don't forget: this was a BIG deal for the average Israelite soldier. Most of these men had never seen a walled city like Jericho. They certainly had never seen a city like this fall. So, as they stood looking at those massive walls, I'm sure that many, if not most of them, thought to themselves: ''This is impossible. There is no way that we're going to be able to conquer that great, big city.''
But, they listened to the instructions given by Joshua, and they obeyed the commands of God and as a result of that they saw, the impossible become reality and ''the walls came a-tumbling down.''
